Sept 2017 - FEWS Science Meeting

Washington DC - Climate Engine attended the Famine Early Warning System (FEWS) Science meeting in Washington DC on September 6-8 2017.  Team members Justin Huntington and Katherine Hegewisch  presented a talk to the FEWS science meeting.  After the meeting, Katherine Hegewisch hosted a 1.5 hr workshop to African FEWS field scientists on using Climate Engine.

Aug 2017 - Coding Week at DRI

Reno, NV -  Climate Engine had a coding week at the Desert Research Institute (DRI) from August 7-11, 2017 to work on known Climate Engine issues and make progress on new features coming soon.

It was a great week for team bonding which finished with a pizza night with family members followed by 4-wheel roller skating at the Roller Kingdom.  Justin Huntington impressed us all with his backwards skating, waltz jumps and 80s groove.

Enterprise, OR - Climate Engine attended interviews with ranchers on the Zumwalt Prairie under coordination with The Nature Conservancy in Enterprise, OR in Jun 2017. Team member Katherine Hegewisch and University of Idaho graduate student Vincent Jansen interviewed 7 ranchers on the Zumwalt Prairie to gain information to improve a Climate Engine web tool in development for ranchers. The development of this 'Precision Grazing' web tool is supported by The Nature Conservancy and the Northwest Climate Hub.

Mar 2015 - White House Climate Data Initiative includes DRI partnership with Google

In a White House press release launching the President’s Climate Data Initiative,  DRI was mentioned as a stakeholder in the Administration’s commitment to increase partnerships on climate change research. DRI’s role in the White House Climate Change Initiative falls under its private sector commitments. Researchers at DRI, along with colleagues from University of Idaho and University of Nebraska, will work with Google to create new web-based drought mapping and monitoring tools for the entire continental United States in near real-time and model water consumption by agriculture and natural vegetation across the globe.
